Huddersfield Civic Society Social Evening
Thursday, February 29, 2024
Twenty-five people attended the HCS social evening at the Head of Steam in St George’s Square, the first held since Covid disrupted the annual programme.
The evening proved an enjoyable chance for a get-together for members and friends and an informal chat with committee colleagues, all helped by a pie and peas supper and a drink or two.
HCS Chairman David Wyles tested our knowledge with a quiz comprising local landmarks, quirky architectural features, quotations about the town and historic links. Clearly a challenge to some, somewhat unsurprisingly, the winner was local historian and author of HCS publications on Edgerton’s villas and Highfields, David Griffiths, who deservedly received a bottle of wine, with chocolates for the two runners up.
A similar open event has already been discussed for early 2025.
