Celebrating 21 years of Kingsgate – a new chapter unfolds
Huddersfield Civic Society members were given a revealing insight into the new Kingsgate development scheme.
The talk was by Kingsgate centre director Jonathan Hardy who shared the thinking behind a number of previously considered expansion schemes and the reasons they never quite materialised.

Evening Walk Around Golcar
Twenty-one Huddersfield Civic Society members and friends enjoyed a sunny evening walking tour around this historic village.
Guided by Betty Taylor and enthusiastic volunteers from various local organisations, the evening began at the Providence Methodist Church on Knowl Road.

Peter Womersley, Architect, 1923 -1993. Talk: ‘The Best House in Britain’
Ninety people attended this evening talk organised by Huddersfield Civic Society on Cleckheaton-born architect Peter Womersley. Attendees had travelled distances up to 100 miles and included members of the Modernists and The Twentieth Century Society.

The Women and Men who made Woodsome
Following his fascinating tour of Woodsome Hall in October 2022 Philip Sands presented a more detailed look at the key personalities who created and developed Woodsome Hall, its estate and its influence beyond.

Joint Huddersfield Civic Society and University of Huddersfield talk on retrofitting
More than 60 HCS members, university staff, students and guests met at Huddersfield University’s Oastler building on the evening of Tuesday, March 7, 2023, to attend this year’s HCS/University lecture titled ‘Retrofitting existing housing – Demystifying Net Zero’.

The Work of Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust
Trustee Dr Jane Crease and Chair of Grant Committee and Trustee Sylvia Johnson revealed the work of the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust ((YHCT) which was formed in 1988 to provide grants to Christian churches of any denomination or age, listed or unlisted, and used for public worship within Yorkshire.
