Deadline is now to feature in the Kirklees brochure for Heritage Open Days 2026
This weekend (July 5) is the deadline for organisations and buildings in Kirklees to register to take part in Heritage Open Days 2026.
Every September thousands of volunteers across England organise events to celebrate the country’s fantastic history and culture and this year it runs from September 11-20.

Events started to be listed on the national Heritage Open Days website from June 1 and can be viewed on https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/whats-on/search-2026-events.html
This year the Holme Valley Partnership has 10 days of open buildings, exhibitions, talks, walks and local stories across the Holme Valley and all their information is on https://holmevalleyheritage.com/#heritage-week
Their theme is Hearth & Holme, exploring the idea of home in its widest sense, the houses, mills, farms, churches, workshops, streets, stories and gathering places that have shaped life in the valley.
Heritage Open Days nationally is sponsored by leading family history website, Findmypast which has billions of historical records and detail-packed newspaper archives from every corner of England to help people research local and family history.
Findmypast is running a competition to find the people doing great work on history and the person or organisation who wins the Everyday History Heroes competition will receive £1,000 to continue their work.
