Greasepaint and Limelight Talk

This illustrated presentation of Huddersfield’s theatres and cinemas by Ian Stevenson was held at New North Road Baptist Church on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at 7pm.

The evening celebrated the many theatres and cinemas that once offered so much pleasure to Huddersfield folk.

Local historian Ian Stevenson shared his research and fond memories of some of the 26 or so ‘pleasure palaces’ that existed in the Huddersfield area in the 1950s and 60s and some of the stars associated with them.

It was free for Huddersfield Civic Society members while a recommended £5 donation from non-members helped towards costs. This amount was deducted from annual HCS membership charge (£12.50 individuals, £30 corporate) for those non-members who joined the Society on the evening.
