Mills Transformed talk showcases the wonderful ways old mills have been given a new lease of life

HCS and Huddersfield Local History Society invited photographer Neil Horsley to give a presentation of his work showing how old mills have been transformed in and around Huddersfield as part of the 2025 Heritage Open Days festival.

The talk took place at the Brian Jackson Centre in Huddersfield on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, and follows Neil’s successful exhibition at Bradford Industrial Museum.

After an introduction by John Lambe, Historic Places Advisor for Historic England who has a focus on mills, Neil described stories of local entrepreneurs and enthusiasts whose vision, dedication and work had successfully transformed former mills across the north from dereliction to a range of new and successful uses.

Neil’s stunning photography showed people and the mills before, during and after their transformation.
