Comments made on behalf of Huddersfield civic Society

Huddersfield Civic Society has no objection to the principle for using the upper floor for residential use. However, it has some concerns regarding the elevational treatment of the King Street facade. Although there is a mixture of design on properties close to the Packhorse, the mid C19th properties above it are faced in ashlar stone. It is suggested that rather than the ‘rough dressed buff stone slips’ as proposed by the applicant, consideration is given to replacing this with natural ashlar stone cladding which will be more in keeping with the predominant architectural materials used within the town centre.
