Alterations to building and erection of bin store (within a Conservation Area)
Planning Application: 2023/91474 (click on the link to see the full application), New North Road, Edgerton, Huddersfield, HD1 5QP.
Granted on June 21, 2024. HCS representations were taken into account before the decision was reached.
HCS echoed comments from another consultee, Sebastian Pickles, who said: “We do have concerns in respect of the removal of the chimney stack. While it may be in a poor state of repair it does form a part of the character of the property and has a positive contribution to the roofscape. We consider that the chimney stack should be retained.”
HCS stated: “The owner wants to remove the chimney stack and make various small, but totally inappropriate, other changes. It’s a superb building in the CA and, per David Griffiths ‘Highfields a most handsome suburb’ was built in 1851 with John Hirst, wool merchant, as its first owner.
“Sebastian makes the exact same points as we would favour and so hopefully those thoughts have been taken into consideration before decisions are made.”
