- Description
Tolson Memorial Museum has been the Museum of Huddersfield for more than 100 years. Established during a period when Huddersfield was expanding rapidly, it was created through the enthusiasm, knowledge and generosity of local people. This history provides a vivid picture of the work of local lecturer Dr Woodhead to create a museum with collections that reflected the area's physical, environmental, historic and leisure activities. It describes the ground breaking work of Dr Woodhead, the museum's first director, and the gifting of Ravensknowle Hall and its grounds by Legh Tolson, as a memorial to his two nephews who died in World War 1.”
